Welcome to the first addition of our newsletter, devised to track our progress towards reaching the ultimate goal of rowing the Indian Ocean in April 2009.
We have been very busy since Christmas finishing off our sponsorship proposal which is now complete and ready to be sent out. If anyone requires a copy to send to colleagues and friends please contact us.
Thanks to the help of Stephen & Nicola at SP Web Connections the website has now been launched www.indianoceanrace.com Now we are online please visit as often as possible to keep up to date with our progress. Sponsors can donate funds directly on the website using the Paypal service. We need all the support we can get so please send this link to as many people as you can.
Training
We have begun the long and hard training schedule which consists of both indoor ergo training and gym work to improve our upper body strength and endurance. We are now members of Ardingly Rowing Club, Sussex, where we are perfecting our sculling technique.

We are working alongside Orchid, the only UK registered charity that focuses entirely on the male-specific cancers; prostate, penile and testicular. They fund medical research and promote awareness about these cancers.
Once we have covered our expenses we will use all additional funds to support Orchid. Before this time we will help to promote awareness of the male cancers, this is crucial in helping to recognise signs of the cancers - a simple self check can identify early signs of testicular cancer; which if caught early is 98% treatable.
To find out more about Orchid and the male cancers, or how you can help to raise funds and promote awareness to help fight male cancer please visit their website.

Architectural Plants of Horsham and Chichester have also jumped on board. Architectural Plants, the natural home of big hardy plants, exotics, bamboos, bananas, palms, ferns, rare evergreen trees and screening plants is an exotic haven for plant lovers. With this additional sponsorship we are now able to fund the second instalment of the boat building costs. – A big thanks to both our sponsors. |

Events:
In February we ran the Sussex Beacon Brighton Half Marathon carrying our famous kayak that we used in the Barns Green Half Marathon last year. Yet again we were given some great publicity and support during the event.
Our first six-a-side Football tournament is being held at the K2 leisure centre, Crawley, on Sunday 6th April. If you would like to get involved or enter a team please download a registration form from the website or email us for further details.
We wish to thank each and every one of you who is helping and supporting us reach our targets – we would not have got this far without your help. |
